Watch the Brazil and Ecuador match broadcast live today 27-1 2022 South American qualifiers for the World Cup

The Ecuadorean authorities decided to hold the national team's match against Brazil, in the South American qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, next Thursday at Rodrigo Paz Stadium in the capital Quito, without a public presence, due to the high cases of Covid-19.

Ecuador is trying to avoid another possible spike in COVID-19 cases due to this match, given the widespread omicron mutation.

The Ecuadorean Football Federation had requested a permit to sell tickets to fans, equivalent to 60% of the stadium's capacity, as happened before against Venezuela last November.

The measure taken yesterday, Monday, constitutes an inconvenience to the federation, which had promoted last December to sell 42,000 tickets, equivalent to 50% of the capacity of Rodrigo Paz Stadium.

And union officials announced that they would return the money they got from selling tickets to fans again.

Ecuador occupies third place in the qualifiers table with 23 points, 6 points ahead of Colombia and Peru, and seven points from Chile and Uruguay, 4 rounds before the end of the qualifiers.
